Salsa Habanero

They are green too 🙂

A friend D had posted on FB about this amazing Mexican take away joint. She raved about the food and I decided to pay a visit. One fine evening when I decided to check it out, I called and got excellent directions from the gentleman who answered the phone. Reached this charming looking place where I was greeted graciously by the husband-wife duo. I ordered a Quesadilla (Flour tortilla grilled with cheese and Pica De Galo), Salsa and a bag of corn chips (My friend on FB had raved about it). I opened the packet in anticipation as soon as I hit home and was delighted….it was simply divine and tasted nothing like what is normally passed off as Mexican here. I have been to the place on several occasions later and was not dissapointed ever. Yeah the only dissapointing thing about this place is that it’s only open on weekends: Sat- Sun 6-10 pm. The owner (Mr. Prakash Patel) says cooking is his hobby and that’s why the weekender route. Hmm we foodies will want more. Till Mr. Patel also agrees, we will have to go with the flow. Besides Quesadillas and Corn chips, I’ve tried the Burrito and Enchalada. Both have been equally yum, fresh and wholesome. But for me, Quesadilla rules 🙂 (though I still do not know how to pronounce it right :P)

Bon Appetit 🙂

Kashi Art Cafe, Fort Kochi

Kashi Art Cafe, Fort Kochi

This was our first stop in our Kerala trip. NS, E and I had read so much about Kashi Art Cafe that we set out for lunch as soon as we set foot in the streets of Fort Kochi. We entered this cute little cafe perched in the charming streets and were struck by the beautiful paintings and sculptures. As one moves further, you enter the cafe area which is green and semi open. Between us, we ordered a Sandwich, Quiche and Pasta. I had ordered the Quiche but it dissapointed as there was too much of egg in it. Bullied NS and E into having it while I ordered a Sandwich and Coffee. This time thankully, both were good. NS and E ordered dessert and I wisely stayed away. The food is average but if you are in this mood for coffee and conversations in a serene and beautiful atmosphere, this is the place to be. If you are alone and have a book and coffee for company, even better!

Live — it is !

Had heard about this lounge from few friends …all of them had recommended the same, so I was looking forward to try it out. Finally we got our chance when EM was here last weekend and the three of us (NS, EM and I) decided to go there on Saturday night. NS had been there once before but for EM and me, it was the first visit and we were not disappointed.

I have always liked the get up of brick like structures so I fell in love with the ambience and the comfortable chairs. It has a nice vibrant vibe about it – maybe because of the fact that the owners are young and the concept is of a Music / Sports lounge There was a party going on of teeny boppers then – so the music was loud (we were warned by the owner) but was good fun so we did not mind it.

The Carnivores ordered fish and I ordered Bruschetta, a Veg Pizza and Mojito. Both — the food and the drink did not disappoint. In fact there are very few places in Vadodara who get their Mojito right and thus I was quite pleased with the outcome. The overall look and feel of the place, the vibe, the music and the food reminded me of Mumbai lounges/pubs. The only thing that was missing was alcohol! (Aargh– the la(o)ws of Prohibition)

The menu had a mix of cocktails, starters and very few options for main course. If you are looking at a hard core dinner option, this may not be the ideal choice but if you are in the mood to chill out with friends over music and mock tails, it’s definitely a “must do” option.

It’s so heartwarming to see such varied places that have opened up in Vadodara – especially last year. Let thy tribe increase 

Varie tea

I had been seeing this cute little sign every time I passed the road. Finally on one rainy evening when I was, both in this mood and need for chai, I decided to venture in.

I was instantly warmed by the cozy interior and I settled myself in a corner table. The Menu was interesting — they had a wide variety of tea which they served in a Cup or Pot (meant for two). I love huge cups of tea and the weather was such that I thought of ordering a Pot for myself. They had some nice snack options too ranging from Khari biscuit and Bun Maska to Sanwiches and Egg.  In short, everything possible which can go as a nice snack option with tea. Using the “Ghanti” which is used for ushering in the waiter, I ordered a Pot of Masala Tea and an Open Sandwich and settled myself with some magazines.

The Cute little Pot of tea with two love cups arrived (yes– like the love seats) and so did the Sandwich. Nothing dissapointed. The Chai was refreshing, the Sandwich yummy, the background music soulful and the evening perfect.

I ended up going to this place five times after that and though the last two times, it was getting too crowded for my comfort but overall, still a cute little place. Especially if you want to unwind with friends over a cuppa and don’t want to go to a cliche Barista or CCD.

TGB- The Grand Bhagwati

Had heard about the yummy food at TGB Surat from NS– and ever since I heard that a restaurant by the same stable has opened in Vadodara, was wanting to try it out and finally did– yesterday!

After watching the 3rd episode of Satyamev Jayate– rushed to pick up my sisters family and reached TGB only to find 1/2 an hour waiting. Phew– I optimised the waiting time by picking up some groceries from D- Mart next door so it was’nt like a total downer.

Anyways, finally when we were ushered in, I was happy to get this awesome table. I mean it was  sort of a private area and the ambience was amazing– rich and elegant. The Menu had a good mix of North Indian, Italian and Oriental cuisine.

For startes we decided on Dimsums and Paneer Kadai. Between the 5 of us, we also ordered 2 Mocktails (Mojito and Pinacolada), 2 soups and Lassi.  The waiter came to take orders and I was pleasantly surprised to see him take the orders in his Tablet . I was like — Vadodara has arrived now! For the main course, we ordered Lasagnia, Enchiladas and Palak Khichdi  (I know– weird combo but we had a senior citizen with us who does not have Conti, thats why :P)

Dimsums were average, Paneer Kadai was good, Mocktails and Soup also did not dissapoint. The Enchiladas and Khichdi  were decent but Lasagnia was the best. The only dissapointment was the portion size. It was quite small–especially if you equate it to the prices they charge.

Overall — definitely a good place to check out. If you want to avoid the Sunday rush, go by 12.30

Its located in the Galleria Mall, (which houses D – Mart too) in Akota, Vadodara

22 Parallel

One of the best South Indian restaurants in Vadodara. Yummy food and hospitability at its best. I mean whatever that I have had there — be it The Dosas, Rasam, Filter coffee, Neer dosa with Avial, Lemon Rice, Payasam, Curd rice– nothing dissapoints.

My favourites are Neer Dosa and Avial – makes sense to order them as these are not the run of the mill Dosas and Idlis which you get in any South Indian joint. Also their filter coffee is a must try and Payassam – heavenly.

There is this sweet lady who I presume is the owner of that place — she also guides when we place orders

Its located in Jetalpur road now, just above Oven Magic.
