Varie tea

I had been seeing this cute little sign every time I passed the road. Finally on one rainy evening when I was, both in this mood and need for chai, I decided to venture in.

I was instantly warmed by the cozy interior and I settled myself in a corner table. The Menu was interesting — they had a wide variety of tea which they served in a Cup or Pot (meant for two). I love huge cups of tea and the weather was such that I thought of ordering a Pot for myself. They had some nice snack options too ranging from Khari biscuit and Bun Maska to Sanwiches and Egg.  In short, everything possible which can go as a nice snack option with tea. Using the “Ghanti” which is used for ushering in the waiter, I ordered a Pot of Masala Tea and an Open Sandwich and settled myself with some magazines.

The Cute little Pot of tea with two love cups arrived (yes– like the love seats) and so did the Sandwich. Nothing dissapointed. The Chai was refreshing, the Sandwich yummy, the background music soulful and the evening perfect.

I ended up going to this place five times after that and though the last two times, it was getting too crowded for my comfort but overall, still a cute little place. Especially if you want to unwind with friends over a cuppa and don’t want to go to a cliche Barista or CCD.

TGB- The Grand Bhagwati

Had heard about the yummy food at TGB Surat from NS– and ever since I heard that a restaurant by the same stable has opened in Vadodara, was wanting to try it out and finally did– yesterday!

After watching the 3rd episode of Satyamev Jayate– rushed to pick up my sisters family and reached TGB only to find 1/2 an hour waiting. Phew– I optimised the waiting time by picking up some groceries from D- Mart next door so it was’nt like a total downer.

Anyways, finally when we were ushered in, I was happy to get this awesome table. I mean it was  sort of a private area and the ambience was amazing– rich and elegant. The Menu had a good mix of North Indian, Italian and Oriental cuisine.

For startes we decided on Dimsums and Paneer Kadai. Between the 5 of us, we also ordered 2 Mocktails (Mojito and Pinacolada), 2 soups and Lassi.  The waiter came to take orders and I was pleasantly surprised to see him take the orders in his Tablet . I was like — Vadodara has arrived now! For the main course, we ordered Lasagnia, Enchiladas and Palak Khichdi  (I know– weird combo but we had a senior citizen with us who does not have Conti, thats why :P)

Dimsums were average, Paneer Kadai was good, Mocktails and Soup also did not dissapoint. The Enchiladas and Khichdi  were decent but Lasagnia was the best. The only dissapointment was the portion size. It was quite small–especially if you equate it to the prices they charge.

Overall — definitely a good place to check out. If you want to avoid the Sunday rush, go by 12.30

Its located in the Galleria Mall, (which houses D – Mart too) in Akota, Vadodara

22 Parallel

One of the best South Indian restaurants in Vadodara. Yummy food and hospitability at its best. I mean whatever that I have had there — be it The Dosas, Rasam, Filter coffee, Neer dosa with Avial, Lemon Rice, Payasam, Curd rice– nothing dissapoints.

My favourites are Neer Dosa and Avial – makes sense to order them as these are not the run of the mill Dosas and Idlis which you get in any South Indian joint. Also their filter coffee is a must try and Payassam – heavenly.

There is this sweet lady who I presume is the owner of that place — she also guides when we place orders

Its located in Jetalpur road now, just above Oven Magic.
